Kobe Genbukan is a dojo practising the martial art of iaido in Kobe, Japan.
Iaido uses the Japanese sword in techniques where the blade is drawn and a cut is made in one motion. Today, iaido is practised to discipline the mind and body and seek self-improvement.
The head of Genbukan is Oshita Masakazu, kyoshi 8th dan. As well as teaching iaido in Japan, he has travelled abroad and taught at many events held overseas. Genbukan has a number of non-Japanese members and welcomes Japanese and non-Japanese students alike.
We are a member of Hyogo Prefecture Kendo Association and train in both ZNKR iaido and Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu koryu iaido. ZNKR iaido is the modern standardised form of the All Japan Kendo Federation, and Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu is a traditional form with a history of around 400 years.
We practise every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening from 18:30 in Nada-ku, Kobe city. The nearest stations to our practice locations are JR Rokkomichi and Hankyu Rokko. Dojo fees are 3,500 yen per month.
